The job, start to finish

Where it started

The entrance gate at this self storage facility was bent across the middle, with more damage at the operator end. A storage facility cannot leave its entrance open, so the first job was keeping the lot closed.

What we did

We set a temporary gate across the entrance, then took the damaged gate to our shop. There it was rebuilt and powder coated. Once it was ready, we hung it back on the original post and reconnected the LiftMaster operator that was already there.

  • Temporary gate installed so the facility stayed closed
  • Gate rebuilt in our shop
  • Fresh powder coat
  • Rehung on the existing post and LiftMaster operator

How it turned out

The gate closes straight across the drive again and swings open flat along the building, on the same operator as before.

Questions we get about jobs like this

A car hit my gate. Repair or replace?

More gates are repairable than people expect. Bent pickets and panels can be cut out and re-fabricated in our shop, and a racked frame can often be straightened and re-hung on new hinges. Full replacement usually only makes sense when the frame is twisted out of square or the hinge posts have shifted in their concrete. We photograph and document the damage so you have what you need for an insurance claim.

Our gate was installed by another company. Will you service it?

Yes. We repair all major commercial brands, whether or not we installed the system: LiftMaster, DoorKing, Nice/Apollo, FAAC, Viking, HySecurity, Linear, Chamberlain/Elite, and Mighty Mule. We diagnose first and tell you honestly whether a repair makes sense or the operator is at the end of its life. Emergency service is available when the gate is stuck and the property is exposed.

How do you decide between repairing an operator and replacing it?

Three things: parts availability, the cost of the repair against the cost of a new operator, and whether the unit meets current UL 325 safety requirements. If a control board swap gets an otherwise healthy operator running for a fraction of replacement cost, we repair it. If the operator is undersized for your gate, out of parts, or lacks required entrapment protection, replacement is usually the honest answer, and we'll show you why on site.
